July 26 The floods triggered by heavy downpour in Pyuthan since Monday has claimed the lives of at least 14 people while 24 others have gone missing.
Police on Tuesday confirmed that among the deceased are five in Lud-6, Bahane, two in Purja, two in Khawang, and five in Jhimruk River.
Those killed when floods submerged houses of Shishir Rijal, Dhoj Bahadur Pun and Basanta KC in Lud-6, Bahane are Shiova Rijal aged around 35, Kali Pariyar, 25, Prem Thapa, 11, Ranjana KC, 40, and Sushila KC, 12.
Likewise, bodies of additional five people have been found in the Jhimruk River. Those found dead are a girl child aged around 11, a male aged around 45 nearby under-construction building in Bijuwar municipality and an unidentified person nearby Khaira suspension bridge, police said.
Supari Malla, 35, and her son Mukesh Malla, 11, of Purja-1 died when flood swept away their house, said Pyuthan District Police Office. Likewise, Jali Pun of Majkot VDC was found dead in Bijuwar. Also found dead with the dismantling of a house at Khawang-3 are Dabire Sunar, 80, and Kutali Sunar, 80.
Also disappeared in floods at Arkha VDC-6 of Pyuthan are Dev Bahadur Budha, his son and daughter.
The incessant rain has adversely affected lives in the district and recurring floods have wreaked havoc in human settlements, said DSP Ranjit Singh Rathor. He however informed that the rescue efforts are underway.
The human casualties caused by floods in the district are presumably to be the highest in number. As many as 14 locals remain unaccounted for due to floods and landslides in Phopli-3 and 4. Likewise, eight have gone missing at Arkha and one at Khawang of Pyuthan.
Similarly, three students and 11 locals have gone missing and around 200 families displaced due to natural disaster occurred at Phopli.
The floods have displaced over 350 households in Phopli, Lud, Udayapurkot, Rajwara, Syauliwang and Arkha.
Nepal Army and Nepal Police teams have been mobilized to rescue and relieve people across the district, according to District Disaster Relief Committee.
